A gentleman doesn’t discuss politics. It’s OK to have differing opinions, and we’re not willing to lose friends over politicians and the things they promise us. However, we think it’s safe to say that this election year is ending in a particularly scorched earth style. It’s not pretty, but it’s put us in the mood for one of our favorite cocktails.
This is something we can picture J. J Gittes sipping while questioning a particularly elusive suspect in the middle of an orange grove. We give you…
The Scorched Orchard
In a large pitcher, mix:
2 1/4 cups blended Scotch
1/2 cup peaty single-malt Scotch
1 1/4 cups orange liqueur (We like Cointreau, but try Grand Marnier for an extra smokey beverage.)
1 1/2 cups fresh orange juice (no pulp)
3/4 cup fresh lemon juice (also no pulp)
1 1/2 teaspoons orange bitters
Chill in a covered container and serve over ice, with an orange twist in each glass.
Enjoy with friends, and toast the end of an especially divisive election year.
